As regulated health professionals, Chiropractors use a hands-on approach to assess, diagnosis, treat and provide preventative care for disorders of the spine, pelvis, other joints, nerves, muscles and fascia.
On the initial visit to the office, Dr. Ahokas will take a complete history and assess the patient to provide a diagnosis. This will enable Dr. Ahokas to develop individualized treatment/management of the patient along with providing recommended exercises, nutritional and lifestyle guidance.
Most neuromusculoskeletal conditions can be managed by chiropractic care alone however some conditions require chiropractors to work with other health professionals, such as medical physicians, physiotheraptists, registered massage theraptists or naturopaths, to alleviate the problem.
Dr. Ahokas is trained in the Spinemobility Lumbar Spinal Stenosis Boot Camp program which is a 6-week training program that has been clinically tested to significantly improve pain, walking distance and overall function, both in the short and long term.
Dr. Ahokas has a keen interest in gait analysis and foot mechanics allowing him to provide conservative management of foot related disorders including orthotic management, footwear and exercise prescription.
Along with Chiropractic Care, Dr. Ahokas incorporates rehabilitation for all conditions, including sport/work related injuries and post surgical/joint replacement dysfunction. The focus of Chiropractic treatment is to relieve pain and inflammation while restoring normal function to the injured area. Once normal function is restored, appropriate graded exercises are incorporated to strengthen the area and to prevent recurrences.
